Zaibatsu

  A Japanese term for privately owned holding companies which dominated large sectors of Japanese industry around the turn of the 20th century. They derived their capital from either internal growth or bank loans. Modern companies which are of Zaibatsu origin include Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Sumitomo and Yasuda. See also Antei kabunushi
